HÀ NỘI — Việt Nam’s No 1 tennis player Lý Hoàng Nam had a good start after beating Ukrainian Manafov Vladyslav in the first match at the Amex-Istanbul Challenger in Turkey on Saturday.

Nam, ranked 518th in the ATP, won over Vladyslav, ranked 475th, in the men’s single qualifying round 2-0 (7-6, 6-3).

The 25-year-old from Ukraine was highly favoured to win going into the match.

Vladyslav had 6 chances to win in the first set but was blocked by Nam, as he evened the score 5-5 then 6-6. In the tie-break, the young player from Bình Dương took the chance and won 7-3 in the first set, and 6-3 in the second.    

Nam would meet Mladenov Vasko from Bulgaria, ranked 910th in the second match, held last night.

The total prize of the tourney is $75,000. — VNS
