Rising Swedish star Elias Ymer has signed up for this year's Williams BMW Liverpool International this week - and delighted Tournament Director Anders Borg declared: "He is exactly the kind of player we like to feature in our event, young, ambitious and extremely focused.

"I firmly believe he will be the next big thing coming out of Sweden.

"Sweden has had a problem replacing their golden generations of the 70s, 80s and 90s but was last represented in the top Ten by Robin Soderling, who today is Ymer's coach.

"We very much are looking forward to see Ymer play from Thursday, June 21 in what promises to be a very exciting four days of International tennis in Liverpool."

Borg is the tennis talent spotter who has made a habit of attracting tennis starlets to Merseyside before they make their names.

An 18-year-old Novak Djokovic, 15-year-old Caroline Wozniacki and a very young Eugenie Bouchard, years before her Wimbledon final appearance, all appeared at the Liverpool International.

Born in Skara, Sweden with Ethiopian parents, Ymer is currently ranked world no. 122 but is rising fast.

He made it past the French Open qualifying to reach the main draw at Roland Garros, defeating Israel's Dudi Sela in the first round before bowing out to top 20-ranked Italian Fabio Fognini.

That was Ymer's second main draw appearance at Roland Garros and the sixth overall appearance in the main draw of a Grand Slam event.

Robin Soderling took over as Ymer's coach a year ago and Ymer said:"I asked my agent to approach Robin and ask if he was interested in coaching me.

"Over the months we've worked more than anything else on how I can play more aggressively."

That work paid off with his first Grand Slam victory in Paris.

Ymer will be joined at Liverpool Cricket Club by former Wimbledon champion Marion Bartoli and former world number two Vera Zvonareva.
