The Bottom Line by Sawyer Coffey

FRANKFORT, Ky. — Amgen, Car-Part.com, and Kentucky Educational Development Corporation (KEDC) were ranked the 2023 Best Places to Work in Kentucky by the Kentucky Chamber of Commerce and the Kentucky Society for Human Resource Management (KYSHRM).

During the 19th Annual Best Places to Work in Kentucky awards ceremony, presented by ClearPath Mutual Insurance Company, more than 900 attendees celebrated the 100 Kentucky companies recognized for their commitment to focus, measure and move their workplace environments toward excellence.

The companies who made the 2023 list were announced in March and the ranked list was announced on stage at the awards ceremony. The 100 winning companies participated in a comprehensive survey and were then ranked according to those results. The list consists of three categories: small companies of 15-149 employees, medium companies of 150-499 employees and large companies of more than 500 employees (categories based on number of U.S. employees, only Kentucky employees surveyed).  Click here to view the full list of ranked winners.

  • Amgen, the top winner in the large category, is a values-based company deeply rooted in science and committed to unlocking the potential of biology for patients suffering from serious illnesses by discovering, developing, manufacturing, and delivering innovative human therapeutics. Amgen was previously ranked twelfth and has made the list three years in a row.
  • Car-Part.com, the top winner in the medium category, is a leading provider of software and web solutions for auto recyclers. Our product suite covers an end-to-end auto recycling workflow, helping auto recyclers buy/sell parts, manage inventory, and manage their businesses. Car-part.com has made the list for three years and was previously ranked second.
  • Kentucky Educational Development Corporation (KEDC), the top winner in the small category, supports and adds value to its member districts through a united spirit of cooperation and innovation. With over 70 member districts statewide and over 50+ years of service, KEDC is Kentucky’s oldest and largest educational cooperative. KEDC exists to provide educational support services for its members. KEDC was previously ranked third in the small category in 2019.

Now in its 19th year, the Best Places to Work in Kentucky program has recognized 359 unique Kentucky companies, with 248 making the list more than once. Special recognition to Dean Dorton for making the list every 19 years.

The Kentucky Society for Human Resource Management (KYSHRM) state council and the Kentucky Chamber of Commerce are proud to host the Best Places initiative, as both organizations support the value of workplace excellence as a key component in moving Kentucky forward.

“HR professionals are the CEO’s strategic partner in creating an adaptive advantage for Kentucky’s employers. The Best Places to Work in Kentucky program recognizes those employers who set an exemplary standard of excellence for employee engagement and business success,” said KYSHRM Chair Amanda Huddleston, SHRM-CP, CSP.

According to Kentucky Chamber President and CEO Ashli Watts, “To help Kentucky’s economy thrive, we must be able to educate and employ current Kentuckians while also creating workplaces that attract talent from outside of the state. The Best Places program does just that.”
