INDOOR TRACK AND FIELD

The second of three indoor track and field meets this season was held at the Mason County Indoor Track and Field facility on Saturday.

While Mason County was shorthanded as they prepared for a trip to Louisville on Sunday for a meet, they still put up strong results with a second place finish in the girls’ team scoring and third on the boys’ side. Dixie Heights won the girls’ meet with 146 points, West Jessamine winning the boys’ meet with 104 points.

Neither the Mason County boys’ or girls’ team entered a relay team in the meet, but had some solid individual performances starting with AJ Barrett, who broke his own school record in the pole vault for the second straight week. Barrett cleared 10-foot-nine inches in last week’s meet and cleared 11-feet on Saturday, earning first place.

Other winners in the meet for Mason County for the girls’ were Kenzie Gulley in the girls’ 55-meter dash (7.82), Morgan Carpenter in the 400 (1:08.61), Layla Henderson in the 800 (2:37.58), Paige Decker in the 3,000 (11:46.92). Alix Flinders won the boys’ 55-meter dash (7.18) and 400 (56.21).

Bracken County’s Payton Tully won the shot put with a throw of 35-00. The Polar Bears finished fourth with 41 points.

The final regular season indoor meet will be held February 27 in Maysville with the Class AA state meet in Louisville on March 6.
