Another Canadian tennis star has accomplished a major breakthrough.

Denis Shapovalov, 20, captured his first ATP tour title with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Serbian Filip Krajinovic in the Stockholm Open.

The Richmond Hill–raised southpaw became the first Canadian man to win an ATP singles tournament since Milos Raonic beat Roger Federer in the final of the Brisbane International in January 2016.

Shapovalov entered the Stockholm Open ranked 34th, but with this victory he's expected to move into the top 30.

Shapo, as he's often called, was born in Tel Aviv to parents who had immigrated from Russia. The family moved to Canada when Shapovalov was one years old. He now lives in Nassau in the Bahamas.

Last month, another Canadian, Bianca Andreescu, won the U.S. Open women's singles title after defeating U.S. tennis superstar Serena Williams in straight sets.
