Jackson Irvine has hailed Rangers’ signing of Hull pal Allan McGregor – but reckons landing Liverpool kid Harry Wilson would be an even BIGGER coup.

The ex-Celtic midfielder played with both in the English Championship as McGregor played a massive part in keeping the Tigers in the league while Anfield youngster Wilson made a huge impact on loan.

Irvine is convinced the Scotland keeper will bring a winning mentality back to the Ibrox dressing-room.

But as a Hoops fan, he admits he’ll be gutted if new Gers gaffer Steven Gerrard manages to tempt Wilson to Glasgow.

The midfielder has hailed Rangers' capture of McGregor

Irvine said: “Greegsy was so important for Hull, he was outstanding.

“We’re gutted to lose him because he was such a big player for us.

“I reckon he made one mistake the whole season, which, in a 46-game campaign, is incredible. When strikers see him they know they are going to have a tough day.

“Rangers need Rangers people and that’s what Greegsy is. He’ll exude that in the dressing-room and it will rub off on everyone.

“He knows what it means to win titles and trophies there. That’s what they need if they’re going to challenge Celtic again.

“But as a Celtic fan, I’ll be devastated if Harry goes to Rangers. This kid is
incredibly talented.

Wilson impressed Irvine massively

“He’s not lightning quick but he has an ability just to glide past players. And he’s terrific in the final third.”

Irvine reckons Gers will have a battle on their hands to tempt 21-year-old Wilson to Glasgow.

He added: “I was so close to voting for Harry as our player of the year and he only came in January. He was that influential.

“If Rangers get him they’ll be doing well because they’ll have had to fight clubs
in England. He has so much potential and if Rangers get him it’ll be a real coup.”
