Five table tennis players are expected to be named tomorrow to represent Fiji in the 2018 Commonwealth Games on April 4-15 in Gold Coast, Australia.

Speaking to SUN sports yesterday, Fiji Table Tennis Association president Anthony Ho said some players would be travelling to Japan where they would undergo special training prior to the Oceania Championships and the Commonwealth Games.

“At the moment we haven’t confirmed any names to represent Fiji in commonwealth Games but we are hoping for at least five to qualify which will be finalized on Friday,” Ho said.

“We are hoping to get confirmation for our players to go and train in Japan similar programme to what we had in place last year.

“And we are expecting the training session to be abit more intense session as they will be exposed to some top table tennis players as well as coaches in the world.

“So, at the moment we have not confirmed our dates for travelling yet as it clashes with our next competition which is the Oceania Championship where the team departs for Australia on March 14 and return on the March 20 as it will continue through to the commonwealth games as well.

“I believe it would be the most ideal preparation for the players to train in the event which they will be competing in,” he said.

“We will be having our major training camp from March 3-15 and we hoping to go little bit earlier because we planning to stay for maximum of 10 days in Japan.”
