Union Pines tennis scored a pair of Sandhills Athletic Conference wins Monday evening when Scotland came to town and played a doubleheader, completing its SAC series against the Vikings in one meeting.
Only singles were played in the first match after Union Pines swept the six individual matches. The Vikings did so again in the nightcap, but this time the teams also played the doubles, which Union Pines also swept. The official team score was 6-0 in the first match and 9-0 in the second.
In the first match, going down the order as the teams played single, eight-to-win sets, Union Pines swept with Lane McPherson beating Ricky Zhang 8-2, Joey Tortora downing Eli McCrae 8-2, Tucker Lloyd defeating Kishawn Pate 8-2, Jace McPherson topping Jackson Hernandez 8-3, Cam Deibel shutting out Owen McCrae 8-0, and Dominic Roett blanking Tri Duong 8-0.
The second match was more of the same. The teams entered the same lineups, except for the Scots switching their Nos. 5 and 6 seeds. One of the matches went to a tiebreaker, but Union Pines swept again. The results of this match were: Lane McPherson shut out Zhang 8-0 and Tortora blanked Eli McCrae by the same score; Tucker Lloyd held off Pate 9-8 (7-5); and Jace McPherson whitewashed Hernandez 8-0 at No. 4. In the bottom two seeded matches, Deibel took on Duong this time and beat him 8-2, while Roett shut out Owen McCrae 8-0.
The doubles went down the same order and Union Pines won all three. L. McPherson-Tortora blanked Zhang-Pate 8-0; Lloyd-J. McPherson defeated E. McCrae-Hernandez 8-3; and Deibel-Roett shut out O. McCrae-Duong 8-0.
