ACERS TENNIS OPEN KICKS-OFF TODAY

MBABANE – The time has come for local tennis players to test their skills against Africa’s best.

The second edition of the richest tennis tournament in the land, the Acers Tennis Open, kicks-off today at the SBS National Tennis Centre-OlympAfrica.

However, as stated by the Eswatini National Tennis Association (ENTA), President Maxwell Jele, the venue might change to Mhlume and Tshaneni depending on the weather conditions on the fourth day.

The tournament will start today and will be played for four days finishing on Sunday. It is expected to feature Africa’s best including Zambian champions Edgar Kazembe, who is already in the country and won the Acers third series/Mozambican Invitational after being allowed to take part due to his early arrival in the kingdom despite that the tournament was limited to Eswatini and Mozambique participants.

Tournament

The winner of the tournament will take home E30 000, while the runner-up of the men’s singles will get E20 000 and semi-finalists will each walk away with E10 000.

Quarter-finalists will each get E5 000 while pre quarter finalists will each get E1 000. 

For the men’s doubles category, the champions will each get E10 000 and runners-up will each get E5 000, while semi-finalists will each take home E3000. 

Quarter-finalists will each get E750 as consolation prizes.

Champion

There will also be the ladies singles category where the champion will get E8 000, the runner-up E5 000, semi-finalists E3 000 each and quarter-finalists getting E1500 each.

Visiting countries to be represented at the tournament include Malawi, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Mozambique and South Africa.
